It's Not You, Book: A Dear John Letter

Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) - Hugh Howey

It's not you, book, it's me. You see, I loved your first story. The backstory flashbacks were a little annoying, but the main character was a complex, interesting guy and I cared about what happened to him. And that ending! Whoah! I really didn't see that coming. The cake was a lie, and the lie was a bigger lie, and I tip my hat to you for that. If I had stopped there, you'd have four shiny stars and we could have skipped off happily into the sunset.

But I didn't stop there.

Here's the thing, book. Once I knew the cake was a lie, nothing else came as a surprise. Nothing. The thrill was gone. I called it all, plot point for plot point, and I was bored. So very bored. We started out so well, and then the spark just sputtered and died. But you're not a bad book. There are lots of readers who love you. I'm just not one of them.

What I'm trying to say is I want to read other books. Exciting, unpredictable books that throw me for a loop like your first story did. I need that in my books. I'm sorry we didn't work out, but I'm sure it's for the best.

So long, Silo Saga.
