I don't know what I was expecting from Discworld, but I grew up on Douglas Adams and Robert Asprin (and the occasional Xanth novel), and this feels like more of the same. I probably would have adored this as a teenager and obsessively collected the whole series. As an adult I find it mildly entertaining and easy to put down. I already own the next two books (fortunately, since that ending was not an ending), but after that I suspect this will be a run-to-the-library-when-I-need-brain-candy series. Unless, of course, it gets less putdownable as it progresses. Or the books go on sale really cheap. All forty-something of them.
