The Lake House

The Lake House - Kate Morton

I adore Kate Morton's writing despite her apparent love affair with semi-colons (I swear she buys them by the pallet at Costco). The stories themselves are hit and miss for me, even though they all follow the same basic pattern. There's a whole lot of shifting back and forth through time, a whole lot of bait and switch as the mystery is slowly teased out, and then everything's wrapped up in a neat little bow with a hint of possible romance. What makes the difference for me is the characters, and this time around I was totally invested in them. I thought this particular ending was wrapped up entirely too neatly, but I didn't mind so much because I was in need of warm fuzzies. Kate Morton is still on my auto-buy list, semi-colons notwithstanding.
